- Replaces levy expiring in 2010
- Renewable every 4 years
- Funds:
- salary & benefit gap
- 7-period day (State only funds 5 periods)
- other programs not fully funded by state, such as:
transportation
gifted
special education
English as a Second Language (ESL)
athletics
- Believe it or not... it funds lower class sizes
- Technology and Capital Projects Levy
- Replaces levy expiring in 2011
- Collected over a 5–year period
- Will pay for:
- Upgrade to the former Ringdall Middle School to house middle school students whose schools are being remodeled.
- Large-scale maintenance projects such as roofs, flooring, and mechanical, electrical, water and sewer systems on older facilities.
- Technology for instruction
- replacement of classroom computers & other instructional technology on a four-year cycle
- assist teachers in using technology for instruction
- improvements to technology-related infrastructure
- technology assistants to troubleshoot classroom tech problems
- software licenses
- Support for common curriculum and assessments
- Replacement of and improvements to sports fields
Cost to Homeowners (both levies existing bond debt service payments)
- The calculated growth of the local school property tax is imprecise due to the potential impact of current and future legislative sessions on school funding. As of today, the forecasted annual increase in tax bills over the 4-year period is from 3 to 4.4 percent.
- Local school tax bill for home valued at $600,000 in 2009 (before housing price drop) = $1,140
- Local school tax bill for same home in 2014, now valued at $539,935 = $1,441
